Curriculum and Learning Overview

Course Introduction:

S2-S3:
Students will learn about important historical events in modern Europe, including the Renaissance, the Reformation, the French Revolution, and the Industrial Revolution, to understand the main forces that shaped modern European civilization. Through studying the two World Wars, students will understand the formation of today's international political landscape and appreciate the value of peace.

 

S4-S6:
Primarily studying 20th-century world history and Asian history. The world history section focuses on 20th-century international conflicts and cooperation, while the Asian history section mainly explores the modernization of Hong Kong, China, and Japan.

Compulsory in junior secondary, elective in senior secondary

Learning objectives and skills developed

(a) to enhance and develop students' interest in studying history;

(b) to help students understand the present in the context of the past;

(c) to enrich students' knowledge of their own community and culture, as well as other major cultures of the world;

(d) to develop students' historical skills and generic skills for further studies and life situations;

(e) to nurture students to become citizens who have global perspectives, knowledge and sense of responsibility.

Teaching methods: classroom lectures, group discussions and presentations, historical site and museum visits, reading historical materials and books

S2-S3: regular tests and exams, daily continuous assessment, performance during external visits
