Student Growth
Career Guidance

Objectives

Our team believes that career planning is a continuous, lifelong process that enables students to achieve different goals at various stages of life. According to Donald Super's Life-Span, Life-Space Theory, secondary school students are in the second stage of the "Life Span"-the Exploration Stage (ages 14-24). During this period, students are expected to complete three developmental tasks:

  1. Crystallizing - Students begin to understand their personal interests, abilities, values, and personality traits, which help them form an initial self-concept of their career.
  2. Specifying - Through a wide range of career exploration activities, students further refine their self-concept and make tentative career choices.
  3. Implementing - Students engage in relevant career training and practical work experiences to realize the choices they have made.

As secondary school students are typically between 13 and 18 years old, our career planning education primarily focuses on helping students accomplish the first two developmental tasks. At the junior secondary level, students are guided to understand themselves through various career planning activities and lessons. From Secondary 3 onward, students participate in broader career exploration activities and receive counseling services to support personal planning, goal setting, and self-reflection. They also learn about various educational and career pathways, enabling them to form a clearer self-concept and make tentative career decisions upon graduation. This foundation prepares them to smoothly transition into the third developmental task-Implementing-after completing secondary school.

Our school believes that effective career planning education should be integrated with the school curriculum. Through such education, students can acquire the necessary knowledge, skills, and attitudes to make informed decisions about further education and career paths based on their interests, abilities, and aspirations. Ultimately, they can align their career or academic goals with holistic development and lifelong learning.

The aims and responsibilities of the team are as follows:

  1. To collect, update, and disseminate information on higher/continuing education and employment opportunities.
  2. To regularly organize and maintain the careers resource corner and two information bulletin boards.
  3. To conduct surveys on graduates' further studies and employment status and compile the results.
  4. To assist the Academic Affairs Head in implementing procedures related to NSS subject selection and JUPAS admission, based on the principles of equal opportunity.
  5. To maintain close contact with the Education Bureau, Hong Kong Association of Careers Masters and Guidance Masters, Labour Department, Vocational Training Council, youth centers, and other community organizations, and invite guest speakers to host talks, seminars, and workshops.
  6. To help students develop self-awareness in terms of their interests, personality, and abilities, so as to plan their paths in higher/continuing education, vocational training, and employment.
  7. To assist students in acquiring essential interview skills.
  8. To arrange visits or talks with local and overseas industrial, commercial, or academic institutions to broaden students' horizons.
  9. To foster students' positive attitudes towards work and learning.
  10. To raise awareness about workplace safety.
